2012 Miss America Pageant
This past January, The Bachelor had the amazing opportunity of taking part in the 2012 Miss America Pageant events held in Las Vegas, NV. Resident Bachelor host, Chris Harrison, co-hosted the evening of glitz and glam along side fellow ABC host Brooke Burke, while Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss served as a judge. But the Bachelor Nation participation didn’t stop there.
The Bachelor alum and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Dr. Andy Baldwin was able to give back in a huge way. Andy’s foundation Got Your Back Network, in conjunction with the Miss America Organization, hosted its third annual “Project Gratitude.” It was through this initiative twenty-two wives, daughters and one mother of fallen heroes were brought to the 2012 Miss America Pageant and crowned as “Honorary Miss Americas.” Former Miss America and President of Remember My Service Productions Sharlene Hawkes explained “By recognizing each of the women and their daughters as honorary Miss Americas–and giving them the VIP experience that Miss Americas have received over the years–it is just our way of doing what we can to pay tribute to these great Americans.”
The Bachelor family participated in the activities, gifting all the Honorary Miss Americas with Bachelor memorabilia, as well as a meet and greet with Host Chris Harrison and creator Mike Fleiss. “It was an honor to participate in The Miss America Pageant and the week’s activities, but the highlight of my experience was meeting these families. They are the true heroes, whose sacrifice needs to be fully appreciated and recognized by the entire country” stated Judge Mike Fleiss.
Returning host Chris Harrison shared he was “honored to spend time with these families who have lost their husbands, fathers and sons to war. They are the heroes of our country and it is such a humbling experience to be in their presence and hear their stories. To give them a sneak peak of the show which puts smiles on their faces is the least I can do as a fellow American.”
The chairman of Project Gratitude, Kathleen Gagg, and Executive Director of the Got Your Back Network, organizes groups of sponsors and volunteers to support the tribute. “We are so honored and humbled to do our part in helping return the salute to these incredible families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
