Michael Stagliano’s Bachelor Pad Blog: Episode 5

OH, well that was fun to watch, yes?

Let’s break down exactly what WENT DOWN on Episode 5 of BP3.

You ready?

GO!

…Erica…it’s a race.

So it’s challenge day.  But before we get there, everyone is unmistakably on board with sending Chris and Sarah home.  Even during the challenge, everyone in the house was basically cheering for anyone that wasn’t those two people. While we all truly did like Chris and Sarah as people (and still do), after the fiasco the night before, it was just their time to go.  It is NEVER a good idea to put yourself before your alliance…  Chris did that, took Sarah with him…and that led into a challenge day that made the winner REALLY important to the outcome of the rest of the game.

That said…

The Great Fall of China…. a very clever name… a very lame challenge.

While I can admit it was intense, and physical, tested your ability to remain focused and calm (all good things)… I don’t know…  It’s stacking mugs and saucers… Do I need to say anything else???

Blakeley and Tony come away with the win and they seriously earned it.  That won them both the roses for the girls and the guys, AND the OPTION to choose the first or second date.

They went with the latter and gave Kalon and Lindzi the first date.  A little insider scoop here: this decision was an example of our alliance staying strong AND giving Lindzi and Kalon a chance to go on a date.  They hadn’t been out of the house together (Kalon, ever) we were all happy to see T&B give them the date.

I don’t know if it came across on camera but they LOOKED SO GOOD that night; they totally fit the part: Bentley’s, jewelry, suits, and dresses… they were glowing with excitement…and as we would soon find out… LOVE.

They have dinner on a bridge; Kalon opens up about his feelings for Lindzi and how surprised he was by her.  Lindzi reciprocates the feelings, and for two people who have been somewhat in the background together always in each other’s arms and locking lips… I was glad to see them have some solid airtime expressing their newfound love.  I really enjoyed my time with both of them.  They are loving, supporting people; both very smart, and fun to be around.

They come back; date card arrives for Tony and Blakeley.  They have a monster of a Jeep waiting for them in the driveway and it is there to take them camping…

Blakeley is, at first, NOT on board with the bugs and the outdoors, and is kicking herself for not taking the first date and nabbing those jewels.  The night goes on and we see them actually have a really good time!  Blakeley was MUCH more relaxed with Tony and I’d feel comfortable saying that everyone in the house, in our alliance and out of it… was happy to see Blakeley with Tony.  And I’d like to go one step further by saying, I LOVE THOSE TWO.  They were like my brother and sister in the house.  We absolutely had each other’s back, I NEVER had to question things with them, and am so happy they found each other.

Back at the house, Chris was stirring things up again, making a move to get Lindzi off… he was well aware of the fact that there was only one target in the house and that it was on HIS back… so he starts plotting against his former alliance: Ed, Jaclyn, Kalon, Lindzi, Myself, Rachel, Tony and Blakeley.  We were all feeling supremely confident that that was NOT going to happen…

…Then Chris Harrison walks in.

He announces the TWIST, that one girl was going to be voted off and that that girl would choose a guy to go home with her.

It didn’t air this way, but as soon as he made that announcement, I IMMEDIATELY got up from the couch and packed my bags.  This was BAD news for our alliance, namely me.

In case you are unsure of how it all went down, I’d like to clarify A few things…

1. I (our alliance) absolutely tried to strategically send Erica home.

2. Rachel and I did NOT vote for Erica, we wanted to be “truthful” in telling Erica that we voted for Lindzi.

3. We both knew there was no way Lindzi was going to go home based on our numbers, so it was a white lie, or a black truth.

Honestly, I feel like our plan had a very good chance of working UNTIL Chris took Erica into the voting room.  That made my chances of staying slim to none.

  1. At first, I found it hard to like Erica Rose, but after a few episodes; she began to “grow on me”. All of that changed Monday night. I cannot believe, she said those things, to Michael. It’s a game, what part of that, did she not understand? So she chose to ruin a friendship, because she was voted out, of the house? I’m still in shock! That was so uncalled for. Her behavior, is childish.

    Comment by Kennedi — August 22, 2012 @ 12:09 pm

  2. Erica’s comments at the rose ceremony were completely uncalled for! I agree that taking Michael out with her was good game play, but go to such a personal place just to be hurtful was ridiculous. Everything I have seen of Erica Rose shows me that she is petty, shallow & just plain mean. She didn’t even really try to win any of the challenges or to build a strong alliance with any of the major players in the house. She just went around bullying & threatening people to try to get her way. It was beyond time for her to go. And to take something so hurtful & throw it in the face of someone she once called a friend was a completely classless way to go out.

  3. I actually loved seeing Erica try to take down the power alliance because someone I liked went home every single week so far. I have disliked the alliance from day 1 partly because I did not like Ed, Jaclyn, Rachel, Blakely or Kalon on their previous seasons so I wasn’t thrilled about them becoming part of an alliance that was picking off every one else including the fans. I have always liked Michael and do agree that Erica’s words were too harsh. I really hope that Chris, Sarah and Nick have a chance.

  4. I think Sarah is a ditz with all of her hair twirling, goofy, glazed bimbo expressions and sleepng around. If she wants a chance, she should join the oldest profession.

What gets me is how loyal Michael remains to Erica despite her public humiliation of him.

  5. I find myself super conflicted! I love rooting for the underdogs and think it was so amazing for Erica to make the first move and take out the “captain” of the alliance crushing everyones dreams of winning $250 K. If she didn’t have the balls to take out Michael there….he was going to be laughing his way to the bank with another fat check. I mean, hello, everyone not in the alliance of six (you guys really should have come up with a sweet name by the way…I really think you guys missed out on a great opportunity!) how stupid do you have to be to not start taking them all out while you have the numbers on your side for votes?!!? Anyway, it was a great play by miss Erica rose but oh so bittersweet because I just adore Michael and was so happy for him to have found Rachel and really wanted to watch their relationship develop. :(

    Comment by Rachel — August 22, 2012 @ 1:43 pm

  6. I believe that everyone has there own opinion on everything, but with that being said I believe Erica went below the belt line, rude and disrespectful, and have zero respect for her. Now Michael on the only hand, doesn’t say anything bad about her, which I have to say. Good for Michael. #TeamMichael

    Comment by Lauryn — August 22, 2012 @ 1:57 pm

  7. I don’t think many would argue that it was time for Michael to go. He had won last year, so he really made it further than I thought he ever would. I would think people would have voted he and Erica off first, since they already played.

That does not mean I agree with what Erica said. She went too far. Michael was voting her off because she was not in his alliance. Simple. This happens every rose ceremony. She is a poor sport.

I will miss seeing the relationship between Michael and Rachel develop.

I absolutely can not stand Chris and Sarah. I just hope that if they make it to the end that no one votes for them. Chris is an angry child who needs to mellow and grow up.

I bet that next year the rules are going to read that only one person is allowed in the voting room. The producers changed the rules last year when they let Jake stay longer, and once again they interfered with this years outcome as well. Not right.

  8. I like how Chris calls other guys “little boy.” Emotionaly he must be arrested at age 5 and being told by his parents, “now be a good little boy.” or “now you can sit at the big boys table.”

    Weird guy.

  9. Michael,
I absolutely love reading all of your blogs! You have a great sense of humor and attitude about everything! I have really enjoyed cheering you on in all of your reality TV appearances. Thanks for all of your commentary and inside scoop. I really like how you handle this last situation and have a lot of respect for you. I wish you the best and cant wait to see you on the finale! And of course listen to your music :)

    Comment by Courtney — August 22, 2012 @ 2:43 pm

  10. It was absolutely the right move to send Erica home but we have to admit that Chris taking her with him to the voting room was a great move. Anyway, you handled the whole situation with so much class and respect. You acted like a true gentleman while Erica’s reaction was so unlady like… You’re such a great guy and deserve so much to find love and be happy! <3 always stay strong ;)

  11. Erica is a full fledged narcissist. Stay away!

  12. Hey Michael! Just wanted to know if you and Rachel kept up a relationship after the show?? You guys seemed so good together!

    Comment by Michelle — August 22, 2012 @ 3:46 pm

  13. What’s weird is that Erica is trying to launch a TV career as a young Judge Judy, but in the tradition of Elle from Legally BLonde, with her own Gayliff (Gay Bailiff.).

Seriously, who would tune it? How smart is it to antagonize so many on your way up. Reality Steve, Michael, Kalon, and many, many others. She is killing her own professional prospects.

Yes, great reality TV, but being a judge requires likeablility and integrity, neither of which she has.

What a sad woman, I truly pity her.

    Comment by Ant — August 22, 2012 @ 3:47 pm

  14. It’s unfortunate that reality TV exploits freaks like Erica. Let her fade away with dignity, whatever dignity she has left.

    Comment by Jules — August 22, 2012 @ 3:52 pm

  15. Did anyone else notice who gave Chris the idea to take Erica into the voting room? Kalon seems to have gotten a free pass on this one…with the guy who was trying to break up his alliance and vote out his girlfriend!!!

  16. “It was a white lie, or a black truth.” It was a white lie. They don’t let black truths on the Bachelor.

    Comment by jessie — August 22, 2012 @ 4:14 pm

  18. Elephant? For the love of God, give it a rest. You people who scream victim and racism over every little perceived slight are such losers.

If you want your own show, start your own show. No one is forcing you to watch or participate. You don’t have a right to dictate how anyone runs a private business. MF can cast whomever he wants. Why should he be obligated to cast a tolken black? You all scream you are the underclass and deserving of special privileges, well maybe middle America doesn’t want to watch whiny racists preaching revolution or socialism on a flagship TV show.

Take your race baiting somewhere else. I bet you see racism everywhere don’t you? Get lost.

    Comment by dyne — August 22, 2012 @ 5:59 pm

  20. Elephant, we know how it would go!

Waaaah! I didn’t get a rose! The Bachelor(ette) is racist! I’m going to sue for racism.

    I didn’t get a one-on-one date. It’s because I’m black!

The white guy got a better date than me! Racist! A white’s name was called before mine! Racist!

I want affirmative action–not enough black producers! Replace Mike Fleiss with Cool-J. How come the music played isnt gangsta? Waaah! Racism!

The star didn’t give me tongue. Must be because I’m black. The bachelors are wearing suits instead of African robes because they hate black people.

How come they serve wine instead of African spirits! Racists! Why did Chris Harrison say, “This is teh final rose? Why didn’t he say, this is the final chocolate?” Racists!

    Waaaaaah…….

    Comment by Jules — August 22, 2012 @ 6:18 pm

  21. @Kennedi – her behaviour was bang on because of how deceptive Michael tried to vote her out. She probably didn’t need to get so personal, but I think Michael deserved a bit of reality (Sorry Michael). Why?

If it wasn’t about the money and playing the game he shouldn’t have been so focused on game play and alliances and voting people out; which is what he spent a huge amount of time doing, again. He should have stayed well clear of alliances and done his own thing like he said from the start.

The plan was so deceptive that he had to justify it to himself by voting Lindzi after instigating Erica’s departure; which actually makes it worse than if he did vote her off. A great strategic move, but he came back not to play the game, so where’s the integrity there?

    Comment by Aaron — August 22, 2012 @ 6:43 pm

  22. I think, Michael, that you misjudged Chris as being a lesser threat than he really was. It bothers me that you felt you could dictate the in-group in the house. I am glad that the alliance was broken up, though very sorry for you and Rachel to be split up in that way. I hope you guys have been able to pursue your relationship and that it’s a good thing for you both. All I want to say is, that, yes, Chris is behaving badly and will never win, because he has burned so many bridges. However, I did not like the way that you judged and condemned him for doing just what everyone else in the house was trying to do and win the game. I did feel like you thought you could dictate who might win. Perhaps you planned to step aside at some point in favor of someone else, but it just seemed like you thought you could control the game. I am glad for you that you couldn’t. I hope that you have learned something about yourself from this experience. I also really do not like the way that the house seems to operate like a high school clique in a popularity contest, with some people feeling they have the right to dictate other people’s chances of success. I always have liked you up until seeing how you operated in this situation. You broadcast your moves in a way that you had criticized Chris for doing the week before. I hope that you can find a way to be less critical and more compassionate towards him… even compassionate for someone who is behaving as badly as Chris has with his anger issues. And as for Erica Rose, she did what she had to with sending you home, but I agree with other posters that her words to you were harsh, hurtful and unnecessary.

  23. I’ll miss you on the show Michael! Good luck with your music-i’ll keep listening!

    Comment by Alexa — August 22, 2012 @ 8:34 pm

  24. Michael, I have to say I was struck by how well you handled Erica’s tirade. Compare that to Chris’ response to Jamie last week–such a difference. Chris opted to twist the knife even farther, while you refrained from saying anything hurtful (even though Erica, unlike Jamie, probably deserved it).

Pretty interesting how all of the game changes this episode basically worked together to ensure that Chris stayed and you went home. A little too much of a coincidence, IMO.

  25. You left BP3 with integrity. You’d make the perfect Bachelor :) Sad to see you go….

    Comment by Vanessa — August 23, 2012 @ 12:13 am

  26. @Aaron, my comment was about Erica’s behavior towards Michael, at the “Rose Ceremony”. Her move to take Michael with her, was brilliant! I have been watching the show, for three seasons, waiting for someone to make a smart move, and Erica Rose, was “ballsy” enough to do it. I am speaking about, those VERY unnecessary parting words, to Michael. To ruin a friendship, over a “game show” that she had no chance at winning, because she didn’t participate in the challenges, is beyond ridiculous. Bringing up the “Holly and Blake” situation, was a low blow.

    Comment by Kennedi — August 23, 2012 @ 1:11 am

  27. It would have been a great play to get Chris off and I, along with thousands I am sure, was very upset that it didn’t work out that way. You are one class act. Always.
Even though Erica Rose was upset she went over the top with her rant, it was uncalled for to be so vicious. And you showed your true colors by staying calm and not going back at her. You were such a gentleman through it all.
I hope things with Rachel work out. You two are adorable together.
    Love reading your blog.

  28. Almost zero mention of Rachel. Interesting.

  29. I was mortified at Erica’s existing comments. I have watched you for every episode since Jillian’s season. I feel bad that even with the difficulty being back in the house since BP2 I can honestly say that Erica is now and will forever be a sour over the top plastic barbie doll she is. Michael I pray that you find the right girl and that she treats you as well as you treat her. I am sad that my monday nights will not include seeing your handsome face. But your music still plays strong. Good luck in all of your endevors.

  30. (why is Natalie Getz’s comments taken down?)

    Comment by Cassandra — August 23, 2012 @ 11:56 am

  31. Erica was completely out of line when she started hitting below the belt. I don’t understand why the girl has friends at all.

It was effed up how ABC changed the rules with the “twist” – they were clearly trying to keep Chris the villain on the show. (and Blakely, with that Hooters challenge) Well guess what? They both are a pain in the ass to watch!

Michael, I will miss you on the show. It will be totally different without you.

    Comment by Cassandra — August 23, 2012 @ 12:03 pm

  32. p.s. Not only the twist – the real rule breaker was letting Chris into the voting booth at all. Obviously for the drama.

    Comment by Cassandra — August 23, 2012 @ 12:14 pm

  33. Natalie’s comments are down because there were too many psychos on commenting on her blog and there were people pretending to be her. She was getting annoyed. @Michael- I love you. I think Erica is a jerk and rude.

    Comment by Beth Holler — August 23, 2012 @ 5:25 pm

  34. Michael, you are a true gentlemen in every sense of the word. You are so deserving of great love! I am loving the EP and have it on repeat in my most recent playlist. Best of luck in all your endeavors! You certainly make BP fun for me. You know how to play the game with integrity.

    Comment by Kelli Jodway — August 23, 2012 @ 6:57 pm

  35. Beth – thanks. Why did psychos go after Natalie’s blog this particular week? Was there some controversy? Is it her “love” for Chris?

    Comment by Cassandra — August 23, 2012 @ 10:38 pm

  36. @Cassandra- No problem! I don’t know. There are a group of psychos from Reality Steve’s site and then there are a few psychos who are just psychos and have no life. Actually, I don’t think this is the first week they went after her blog. It’s too bad. I am glad she figured out how to delete the comments.

    Comment by Beth Holler — August 24, 2012 @ 8:37 am

  37. Chris is an immature little boy. Taking a contestant in voting room with him!!! Does he know how 2 play a game?? This shouldn’t be allowed – takes challenge and mystery out of game. If more contestants did this good bye bachelor pad. Send Chris home – bring Michael back. Show needs a rule — no other contestant in voting room with you! What a cop-out move by Chris. Erica Rose can’t make her own decisions?

    Comment by TMC — August 24, 2012 @ 11:19 am

  38. Erica Dark Rose is a mean unintelligent brat. Has 2 throw mud from the past about Holly, Michael & Blake. Doesn’t she have
more exciting things in her life beside that crazy wand? Use it on yourself! Can’t make intelligent decisions without watching Chris vote! She is dumber than I thought

    Comment by Susan — August 24, 2012 @ 11:32 am

  39. @ Beth Holler — Oh yeah, the wacko RS people! I think they used Natalie’s blog last week to do whatever they were doing. Thanks for the explanation. :)

    Comment by Cassandra — August 24, 2012 @ 12:16 pm

  40. If its true, as Erica and Chris Harrison said, that Michael was just a schemer, who plays the nice guy while getting others to do his dirty work, then that is just sad. THey said he was the master maipulator in both games and that that is how he succeeded the first time around.

I can’t wait till this season is over — will never watch his franchise again.

@Susan — true. Doesn’t Erica have more going on than this stupid franchise? Can you imagine waking up one morning, having wasted years of your life fooling around with this nonesense, wondering what happened to your life?Post-Bachelor reality must be a rude awakening for many.

At least Blake and Holly had the sense to get off this crazy train and have a real life.

    Comment by Farts — August 25, 2012 @ 8:35 am

  41. I don;t particularly like Erica or any of these reality people, but if what Erica says is true, that he would have her back throughout the game and help her win only to scheme to vote her off so he could have another chance at $250,000, then that is just bogus. Apparently Michael was a close friend of Erica’s and screwed her over royally. Erica retaliated in good old Rose fashion.

It appears that he did just go on the show for more money/TV exposure as opposed to love (can’t he find that off TV? Didn’t he boast about having women throwing themselves at him post-Bachelor?)

I am not a Michael hater, but I am sad to see the change in him. He went from being a sweet, charming charismatic guy on Jillian’s season to this pumped up, steroid ridden wannabe musician.

The arrogance of kissing a groupie as a favor to her and acting like he could control the house. His attitude and demeanor have really changed.

While I think Erica hit below the belt, I can’t really blame her.

    Comment by Farts — August 25, 2012 @ 8:42 am

  42. Fleiss sure did a big FU to the audience when he allowed Chris to bring Erica into the voting room. If Chris would have gone home, Fleiss would have been left with a lot less viewers, and couldn’t afford to let Chris go. He blatantly and abusively used his powers to change the game and keep Chris, the most controversial jerk in BP history. This was under-handed, blatantly desperate and should not been allowed to happen. This was a big FU to all of u people (borrowing that from someone on another site)! We all got played by Fleiss to keep Chris front and center.

    Comment by jessie — August 26, 2012 @ 9:09 am

  43. I disagree with those who believe that Michael was a nice guy. If you believe that lying and backstabbing are good thing to do, then I don’t really have anything else to say. Michael is not a nice guy. Don’t you see what he did in earlier episodes. He criticized Chris for telling him his plan. Chris told him his plan because he trusted him. This episode, He got sent home because he deserved it. The puppet master lost his own game. Erica made the best decision ever, breaking down the who alliance. Now people can make their own decision and not being manipulated.

It is true that Michael did save her multiple times but he saved her because he wanted to eliminated those who were not in his alliance, who were bigger threats. It was just the matter of time until he sent Erica home.

Moreover, he did not have to bring Erica name on the table in the first place. He did it himself so why we are blaming Erica for doing justice.

And please stop using “I am just playing the game” as an excuse. Stop blaming the game. Grow up and be responsible for your own actions. You chose to be on the show, and you chose to do what you did. It’s karma.

    Comment by Mini — August 26, 2012 @ 10:08 pm

  44. Michael IS a nice guy. The way he handled Erica’s nasty rampage…he could have given it back to her and gotten personal and embarrassed HER, as she has many many MANY flaws. You could tell he was mortified by how it went down. The only person who should be embarrassed by this situation is Erica. And hello, it IS a game.

  45. And this show will completely suck without Michael’s personality and his humorous narratives. The show shafted us by very purposely keeping around Blakely and Chris. Who wants to watch these two major pain in the asses? I’m so pissed, this is the only TV show I watch. My only entertainment now is watching Ed get drunk.
