Reid’s Bachelor Pad Blog: Finale

I can’t believe this crazy season is over already. It’s been one big science and psychological experiment game show for sure. Bachelor Pad reminds me of a mixture between Big Brother meets Lord of the Flies meets The Dream Team, meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. We’ve come a long way and finally have a winner or winners and they couldn’t have deserved it more. I’m just happy the Kasey and Vienna didn’t win only because my theory about how their plan was flawed from the start would have been proven wrong. I just patted myself on the shoulder.

Once again Kasey and Vienna called the win before the challenge began and once again they didn’t win, however, I have to admit that they did a very nice job on the Cirque Du Soleil wall. I felt a bit bad that Ella didn’t end up winning the Bachelor Pad but she just could not get past her fear of heights. I wish her well and hope she wins the lottery or something so she can buy her family a home.

After the challenge Holly and Michael decide to have a talk with the two remaining teams so they could decide who would be the least competitive to compete against.

First they meet with Vienna and Kasey. Vienna tells Kasey to stay calm and not be intense because Holly doesn’t like that sort of behavior. It’s almost as if Kasey decides to do the opposite of Vienna’s advice and was as intense as he can be. Vienna does her own math: “we ran the numbers” but in reality this means ‘We know that we have a very small chance of winning.’ Basically if Mike and Holly chose them then they would clinch it with the other team and their win isn’t guaranteed. After what I thought was a constructive meeting and a job well done for Kasey, Vienna goes negative and tells Kasey how she feels and how he talks too much. I would never hit a girl but in that situation a good b*&tch slapping would have made television gold. Vienna says “I need a muzzle for you.” She pisses him off and takes a swig of beer as Kasey gets up to go to be alone. She then has the audacity to find him, sit down next to him and repeats herself again with same non-constructive negativism as she discussed inside the house. What’s done is done, Vienna. Leave the guy alone. Kasey doesn’t want to hear it.

Michelle and Graham are next. Graham showed his absurd, illogical, Lord of the Flies side of him when he freaks out about the possibility of Michael not choosing him and Money Michelle to stay. Graham questions his friendship and loyalty. “It’s not about money, it’s about friendship. I don’t have too many friends I can call at the end of the day, I thought Michael was one of those but I guess I was wrong.” That was a paraphrased quote but that was the gist. I wonder why you don’t have friends you can call at the end of the day? It’s a game show!

In the end, Michael shows his character and chooses friendship and honesty over shady strategy and keeps Michelle and Graham. At this point I believe that Michael and Holly clinched the win either way but it definitely would have been easier with V and K as their opponents.

Onto the live studio finale.

I’m just going to list my favorite and most awkward or interesting moments:

1. Ames and Jackie. I believe they need a follow up show with Dr. Drew to discuss the psychology behind what happened to Ames in this relationship.

2. Jake’s take on the game. Jake said he came on the show to offer an olive branch and close loose ends with Vienna. I disagree. I think he came on the show to make himself look good and show that Vienna was the crazy one. Jake – 1, Vienna – 0. Well Jake, you’re vindicated.

3. Most Awkward Moment Award: This goes to Vienna. She said that because of editing it made it look like she was mean and rude to Jake the entire time. She said, there was that time when I fell off my chair during charades?” What? Everyone in the audience made weird faces and nobody said anything as she giggled. Crickets, and tumbleweeds were all that were leftover.

Side note: in all due respect I’m sure Vienna is not as crazy as they made her out to be. I understand the power of editing but I hope that both she and Kasey learned about themselves from watching this season and will try to work on themselves and their own relationship.

4. The look on Vienna’s face when Kasey apologized to Jake.

5. BLAKE AND HOLLY announce their engagement before Michael comes out? Is this for real? Engaged? Only in the world of Bachelor Land. How are they engaged already? I mean, if this is real then I wish them a happy and healthy future but it seems so far fetched just from what we saw on the show. I’m a bit confused about this. I was like “errr—“ and my ears went up like a golden retriever as my head turned.

6. Michael’s reaction when he finds out in front of a live studio audience that they were engaged. It was pretty sad actually. I can’t believe they used this as the moment to tell him that they were engaged. “Can I have a glass of water or maybe a commercial break or something?” I’ve changed my mind; it was pretty funny.

In the end, and in my opinion, Michael Stagliano wins the entire show based on his display of character. Holly comes in second place. The fact that Michael Stagliano decides to share the money, which he easily could have kept to himself, shows who he is as a person and that the good guy can come on top in the end. I’m proud that David Good and Michael Stag, two guys on my season, have kept the Bachelor Pad Cup in our season’s family. Good work guys.

To Vienna and Kasey: This is all in good fun. I have met both of you before and have nothing bad to say, but this is TV baby!

I look forward to hosting next season of the Bachelor Pad. Well, maybe someday!

  1. Great blog Reid. BUT I do want to clear one thing up that I am still confused about… I was upset that Ella didn’t win the money for her family as well, until I found out she had multiple plastic surgeries?? If she was in such dire need to support her family with the winnings, how could she spend money she didn’t have on plastic surgery? Just saying… Am I missing something?

    Comment by Rachel — September 14, 2011 @ 8:26 pm

  2. Rachel, Erica’s Dad performed the surgeries. Do you think Ella really had to pay for them? Of course not! It’s free publicity!

    Comment by Amber — September 14, 2011 @ 8:33 pm

  3. Erica’s dad is a plastic surgeon and did her surgeries, do you really think she paid for them? Maybe she did, I obviously have no idea…but just think about it.

  4. Rachel-
Erica Rose’s daddy did all of Ella’s plastic surgery. I highly doubt she paid a cent for it and he got all the publicity.

  5. Great blog Reid. No doubt Holly’s and Blake’s engagment hit Michael like a ton of bricks but he chose to be a gentleman about it. I hope he finds love like you did away from the Bachelor franchise sphere. He deserves better. I don’t know what to think about the Holly and Blake engagment but the announcement was pretty brutal. I have heard stories that Holly wanting to tell Michael of the engagment but the network intervined! Whatever! Damage is done. I agree with your comment regarding Jake. In some ways I can see why people think he’s fake but he kept his cool during the show while Vienna looked like a fool. At least Chris Harrison did tell him giving Vienna the rose was a dumb move. I still don’t see how Vienna and Kasey will work out the kinks in their relationship but good on Kasey for admitting his faults and revealing his speech impediment (I hated Justin Rego’s smarmy look when the camera panned on him). Vienna must have cringed when both guys shook hands. I don’t know Vienna and if she behaved the way she did with Kasey prior to the Final Rose ceremony I can understand why Jake reacted the way he did at that now infamous interview. She really likes to push people’s buttons. I wish Kasey luck cause he needs it especially if Vienna did not learn anything after the show.

  6. I’m wondering if Ames is really into women. I know it looks that way on TV but …………..

    Comment by Debbie — September 14, 2011 @ 8:43 pm

  7. Announcing your engagement on national television infront of your ex-fiance is totally wrong (what? when? where? really?) it’s sad to see Michael trying to be happy about it but hurting inside. I wish they make him the next bachelor, he’s funny and real. You (Reid) and Michael was my favorate on your season of the bachelor. Kasey and Vienna i’m glad it’s over b’cause both of them are very annoying. I like Erica Rose and Michelle. Ben F. will make a good Bachelor I’m so excited for his journey to find love. I don’t understand about Ames, poor Jackie leaving her a BIG QUESTION mark on her part(someday, somehow she’s find out)

  8. OMG. Bitch-slapping, Reid? REALLY?

That is the most sexist thing anyone has written on this blog – including when you said Erica had fun bags. Doesn’t anyone review or greenlight your blogs here before you publish them? Because you really need oversight on what you write here.

I am so appalled that I didn’t even read the rest of this – because your sexist opinion means nothing to me.

    Comment by Allissa — September 14, 2011 @ 10:07 pm

  9. Allissa,

I agree, but this show is inherently sexist. Listen to the Bachelor Beatdown where the men refer to women as broads and “billy goats who give good ahead.”

Reid apparently had sex with Jillian while she was doing other guys, according to Wes, and then chose Ms. America as his girlfriend. (obviously because of their mutual respect rather than the fact that he thought he would be da man for snagging arm candy.)

Most of these contestants are players, whores, and/or lounge lizards. Most who are not either who not want to be involved with this franchise or quickly depart, as evidenced by Ames, Chris Lambden, etc.

Anyway back to Ella. What an ugly woman — her inner self not matches her outter self. Such a shame.

Before her surgery, she was stunning, a natural beauty with a lovely maternal figure. She looked like a sexy, sophisticated woman, with lovely curves, and modesty.

Now she is just a caricature of blandness and every horny man’s fantasy, wihch tells me she has no self respect.

Instead of hitting the gym, she took the easy way out and got the fat sucked out. Dr. Rose sanded down her nose, which gave her character, leaving her with a bland face.

Looks like she got lip injections too to be a more succulent kisser. Didn’t she win the competition for being the best kisser? Why get the bee-stung lip look? Pathetic. Are men supposed to want her more because of her more inviting lips?

I can’t even begin to describe what they did to her face. This once gorgeous woman now looks homely and plain.

But she has the big boobs, which she shamelessly flaunts on national TV, the trout pout lips, and a bland looking face so that she looks like all the other wannabes except homelier.

I thought she wanted to be a devoted mother for her son? Why the attempts to look like a sex kitten? Is promiscuity her lifestyle choice/goal now? Does her child deserve a parade of men in her life? Why would she want a man who would find these new additions attractive, or more attractive, than her natural self.

That she would be this vain, reflects to me how ugly she really is on the inside

  10. Grace?

I don’t think it’s a mystery. Ames is a class act and rare find. Jacki is a great lady, but not on his level. She also appeared to be more into him than vice versa. Men like the chance — Jacki was too eager. She came across like Deanna, begging Brad to know why he didn’t choose her? Sometimes the man is just not that into you.

there is nothing wrong with Jacki, she’s just not what he’s looking for.

I have dated guys who had all the right criteria on paper, but with whom I couldn’t envision a long term relationship. Some of them were rude to the help or had poor table manners. Others made life style choices that didn’t jive with mine. Nothing wrong with any of these men, but I determined they were not for me.

I expect Ames has high standards. Jacki seems like a bully and rather needy. She has a mean spirit sometimes — and I expect he just didnt want that in his life. I also noticed that on her date with Jake, that after kissing Ames, she snuggled and kissed Jake.

Do you think a man envisioning spending the rest of his life with you would want to see you kissing another man? I expect Jacki is just not at the same level of Ames ethically, morally, class-wise, etc.

Again, nothing at all wrong with her. She is a beautiful, intelligent lady, as Ames said, but I suspect she is simply not a match for him.

  11. Wow. Way to jump to conclusions Kitson. Alissa this is all in good fun. Never read my blogs again, clearly you can’t handle fun. Wes is a very credible source.

  12. Uhmm Kitson I think Chris Lambton occasionally pops up on Bachelor Beatdown so he hasn’t exactly left the Bachelor sphere just yet. I could think other former contestants who have moved on like Chantal O Brien, Travis Stork, Andy Baldwin, Alex Michel, Charlie Maher would be better examples.

  13. There is an awesome pic out there of Jake & Vienna hugging too at the finale.. They chose not to show it. Very nice pic actually but ther eis no way Jake came to offer an olive branch.. no way in hell.. he got paid well & is Fliess golden boy

I just want to say please keep blogging! I enjoy all the bach. alum blogs, but yours is definitely my favorite. I couldn’t agree with you more about Jake, Kasey, and VIenna!

Congrats to Michael, Holly and Blake.

  16. I don’t see the big deal about Jake being paid for BP. Rob Mariano didn’t do his multiple appearances Survivor for free either same with Colby Donaldson. Its TV!

  17. YES, Reid, you should be the host of Bachelor Pad!!! (It’s a start, right?)

I think Chris needs a break, what with back-breaking work he does for the Bachelor and Bachelorette series shows.

    Comment by Patty — September 15, 2011 @ 7:21 pm

  18. I agree that it is sad that Ella got under the knife. She *was* such a gorgeous, natural beauty, with natural (motherly) curves and a beautiful face. She still looks fine, but fake and boring now. If I were as beautiful as Ella, I would just be happy and appreciate it. I am sad that she became so insecure looking at herself on TV… no one said anything bad about her, so it is hard to understand why she thought she needed to get work done.

It is a sad world when people as gorgeous as Ella think they need plastic surgery. I am just glad that she has a son and not a daughter, because she is a terrible role model to young women. People should be happy with what they have, they don’t need to look like a Barbie doll!

Oh boy, this gives me one more reason to be jealous of Jillian Harris!
